Etymology

"Monemvasia, from the town Monemvasia in Peloponisos is supposed to be the original Malvazia (named after the village Malvazia near Monemvasia). The synonym ""Klossaria"" (Rodos) derives from the shape of the plant (like a cap without a trunk). The tendrils cover the grapes, protecting them like ""the hen and her little chicks"".( Klossa = broody hen)"
