Greek wine industry news:
Dec. 20, 2002 Vintage Report 2002-George Manolesakis and Son

This in from George:

From the standpoint of weather, 2002 was an ugly year. There was much snow during the winter, many frosts during the spring and lots of rain during the summer and autumn.

Because the spring frosts affected the vines, we had decreased production. Despite the heavy rains of the autumn, we did not have problems with our harvest such as the mold and rot suffered by producers in other parts of Greece—especially central Greece—because the varieties we grow mature early.

In general, our harvest this year is characterized by low quantities and superior quality. Indeed, in terms of quality, it is the best in recent memory.
